Packers sign WR James Jones, assemble practice squad

WR Myles White released to make room on active roster; nine players signed to practice squad

The Green Bay Packers have signed WR James Jones, released WR Myles White and signed nine players to the practice squad. The transactions were announced Monday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Signed to the practice squad were WR Jared Abbrederis, LB Carl Bradford, RB John Crockett, CB Robertson Daniel, TE Justin Perillo, DT Christian Ringo, G Matt Rotheram, LB James Vaughters and T Jeremy Vujnovich.

Jones (6-foot-1, 208 pounds) is entering his ninth season in the NFL. He was originally selected by the Packers in the third round (78th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft and played his first seven seasons with Green Bay. Jones spent the 2014 season with the Oakland Raiders and the 2015 preseason with the New York Giants. For his career, Jones has registered 383 receptions for 4,971 yards (13.0 avg.) and 43 touchdowns while starting 57 of 120 games played. Last season, he set a career high with 73 receptions. Jones will wear No. 89 for the Packers and Richard Rodgers will move to No. 82.

Eight of the nine signees to the practice squad were with the Packers during the 2015 preseason.

Daniel, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound rookie out of BYU, originally signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders on May 8, 2015, but was released on Sept. 1, 2015. He played two seasons at BYU after transferring from De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif. In his two seasons at BYU, Daniel played in 25 games with 22 starts and registered 110 tackles (87 solo), three interceptions, 23 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one sack. He will wear No. 31 for the Packers.
