Packers to recognize 1961 championship team's 50th anniversary at alumni game Oct. 2

Alumni to be introduced on field at halftime

The Green Bay Packers game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 2, is the annual alumni game and will feature halftime introductions of 18 players from the Packers' 1961 championship team, here celebrating the 50th anniversary of that title season.

Those scheduled to be introduced include Dan Currie, Ben Davidson, Willie Davis, Boyd Dowler, Lee Folkins, Forrest Gregg, Dale Hackbart, Paul Hornung, Gary Knafelc, Jerry Kramer, Tom Moore, John Roach, Bob Skoronski, Bart Starr, Jim Taylor, Fuzzy Thurston, Nelson Toburen and Jesse Whittenton. Susan Lombardi, daughter of Vince Lombardi, also will be introduced.

The 1961 Green Bay Packers captured the Western Conference title with an 11-3 record and then shut out the New York Giants, 37-0, at Lambeau Field Dec. 31 to earn the NFL title.

Other Packers alumni also will be on hand and will serve in the Ambassador Line for pregame player introductions.

The Packers will also be recognizing Ricardo Diaz as the recipient of the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award during the pre-game. Diaz is an Executive Director of the United Community Center in Milwaukee, a wide range social service agency that aids Milwaukee's Latino population. Diaz helped secure $28 million federal grant to build a residential Job Corps Center. The United Community Center will be receiving a $2,000 donation from the NFL in recognition of Diaz's leadership in the community.

Thenational anthem will be performed by the Green Bay Symphony Brass and Percussion Ensemble, with a Navy flyover to follow.
