The Green Bay Packers, in partnership with the NFL and NBC 26, will team up to "Tackle Cancer" on Friday, Oct. 16, when Bay Port hosts De Pere in the High School Showdown Game of the Week.

The game, which begins at 7 p.m., is a matchup between two formidable local high school teams, the De Pere Redbirds (8-0) and the Bay Port Pirates (7-1). Part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) month and the annual effort to spread awareness, the "Tackle Cancer" event will offer high school athletes, students, parents and friends the opportunity to participate in in the breast cancer awareness effort.

Game attendees will have the opportunity to interact with Packers players, including defensive tackleMike Pennel, who is taking part in the breast cancer awareness initiative, and his teammates Micah Hyde, Jayrone Elliott and Sam Barrington.

The game itself will feature several pink elements on the field, including equipment, similar to NFL games throughout October. Fans can purchase pink rally towels for $5 and have the chance to win autographed Packers items, such as signed BCA footballs, through bucket raffles. The money raised will benefit theBreast Cancer Family Foundation of Northeast Wisconsin.

The game will air on My NEW 32, in partnership with NBC 26, with pregame beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Packers are participating in the game through the support of the NFL's National Partnership Fund grant, which is offered to encourage broadened partnerships between NFL teams and non-profit organizations in their markets that support either breast cancer awareness or appreciation for the men and women serving in our Armed Forces.

The NFL's national breast cancer awareness campaign, A Crucial Catch, is underway as well with players and coaches from every team wearing pink. The campaign continues throughout the month, and was featured at the Packers' Oct. 11 home game against the St. Louis Rams.

*A Crucial Catch *is currently in its seventh year and has raised more than $8 million for the American Cancer Society, with the majority of the donation coming from the sale of pink team apparel, which will be available again this year at the Packers Pro Shop and online at www.packersproshop.com. In addition, game-worn pink merchandise and footballs will be autographed and auctioned at NFL Auction (www.nfl.com/auction) to support the cause.
