Packers, Wisconsin DOT reminding fans of construction projects

Fans traveling north for Gold Package game could encounter delays on highways

As fans are preparing for Thursday night's Green Bay Packers-Chicago Bears Gold Package contest, the Packers are reminding game attendees of*construction projects that are ongoing in the Green Bay area. Several parts ofU.S. Highway 41 and Interstate Highway 43* will be affected by construction, especially for fans driving to Green Bay from Illinois and southern parts of Wisconsin.

For fans traveling to the game from Milwaukee, traffic on the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge on I-43 will be condensed to one lane in each direction with reduced speeds of 55 miles per hour over a 3.5-mile segment of the highway. The Webster Avenue and Atkinson Drive exits will be closed to traffic. It is recommended that fans exit onto WIS 172 to avoid backups on the bridge.

Fans who are traveling northbound on U.S. 41 could also encounter backups through portions of Winnebago and Brown County. Twelve miles of highway from 9th Avenue in Oshkosh to Breezewood Avenue in Neenah, and 10 miles of highway from Scheuring Road in De Pere to the 1-43 exit in Green Bay will have restricted shoulders and reduced speeds of 55 mph.

The Wisconsin DOT also announced this week that WIS 29 is now closed to motorists between Packerland Drive and U.S. 41 until April 2014. All traffic from WIS 29 will be rerouted to the new Shawano Avenue, which will significantly increase congestion in that area. Motorists using that stretch of the highway are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Also announced this week, Oneida Street in Green Bay will have two lanes open in both directions for all future home Packer games.
