ATLANTA -- After going through the practice week with only two wide receivers not on the injury report, the Packers will have six active WRs for today's NFC Championship Game in Atlanta.
Jordy Nelson (ribs), Davante Adams (ankle), and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) are all active and expected to play. The question is, how effective will they be given their recent injuries, and will they be able to last the whole game?
That's why the Packers have activated six at the same position, at least one more than normal for the 46-man gameday roster. Randall Cobb, Jeff Janis and rookie Trevor Davis are also available. Janis was on the injury report earlier in the week but was removed on Friday. Max McCaffrey, signed to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday, is the only receiver not active.
For Nelson, if he catches three passes, he will take over the top spot all-time in franchise postseason history. Nelson has 48 receptions in the postseason in his career, one behind Donald Driver and two behind Greg Jennings.
Nelson almost certainly would have the mark by now if not for the rib injury in the first half of the wild-card game against the Giants. Perhaps he sets a franchise playoff record today.
Secondary health: The Packers have both S Morgan Burnett (quad) and CB Quinten Rollins (neck/concussion) active as well. Burnett left last week's game in Dallas in the first half after a collision with CB LaDarius Gunter, and rookie S Kentrell Brice took the majority of his snaps the rest of that game.
Rollins is back after missing both playoff games so far, following a neck injury in Detroit in Week 17. Rollins has been practicing off and on over the last two weeks but had not cleared the concussion protocol in order to play last week.
Family battle: Packers LB Clay Matthews will be facing off against his younger cousin, Falcons T Jake Matthews, in today's game for the second time in their careers.
The two were slated to go head-to-head back on Oct. 30, but Green Bay's Matthews was a late scratch due to a hamstring injury. Their first meeting in the NFL was back in December of 2014, Jake's rookie season, in a Monday night game at Lambeau Field.
In addition to Matthews, other Packers who missed the Week 8 meeting earlier this year but are expected to play today include Cobb, RB Ty Montgomery, and CBs Damarious Randall and Rollins.
Postseason history: This will mark the fourth playoff meeting between these two teams. The first two meetings were at Lambeau Field, with the Packers winning the 1995 wild-card game, while the Falcons won the 2002 wild-card game. The Packers won the 2010 divisional round here at the Georgia Dome.
Looking for redemption: The Packers were in the NFC Championship Game two years ago, and the Falcons were in it four years ago. Both teams suffered heartbreaking losses. The drive for redemption is the subject of this week's "One Last Look."
The Packers are looking for the sixth Super Bowl berth in franchise history. The Falcons are looking for their second.
