The Green Bay Packers have announced that Sal Logue of Oconomowoc High School in Oconomowoc, Wis., has been named the Packers High School Coach of the Week.
Logue, in his fifth year as the varsity head coach of Oconomowoc, has the Raccoons out to a perfect 6-0 start to the season. Oconomowoc is coming off a huge homecoming win versus a conference rival and currently sits atop the Classic Eight conference, one of the most competitive conferences in Wisconsin. Wissports.net currently has the Raccoons ranked fourth amongst all Division 1 programs in the state as the regular season moves forward and the playoffs loom. Coach Logue says the success of this season is no accident and has always been within the program.
"We've really been knocking on the door the last couple years. We've just found ourselves on the wrong end of some really close games with some really good teams," Logue said. "Through the work ethic of the kids, we've made our way to breaking through. While people take more notice with the record, I think it's been the culmination of all the hard work that a lot of kids have put in here."
Logue also mentioned the importance of community in his program and how giving back is an emphasis among those within it, because of the support they receive from the Oconomowoc community.
"In the summer and the spring our guys do a lot of volunteering at our local food pantry. Both players and coaches donate our time to youth football, virtually every Saturday morning. [We work] the USPS Food Drive. We've just put a huge emphasis on giving back because a lot of people are out to support us on Friday nights and it really is a community event."
Logue grew up in Menomonee Falls, Wis., and graduated from Menomonee Falls High School in 1998. He played defensive back for Menomonee Falls under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame member Pat Cerroni. Logue went on to play the same position at Carroll University, graduating in 2003. He began his coaching career in 2004 as a freshman football coach at Menomonee Falls High School. Logue then became an assistant coach at Brookfield Central High School for seven years before becoming an assistant coach at Arrowhead High School for four years. He started with the Raccoons as an assistant coach before being named the head coach of the program in 2020.
Logue is honored to be named Coach of the Week but thinks of it more as a team award.
"At the end of the day it's a team award," said Logue. "It's the achievement of the whole and I think what it means for me is that our program is working hard and starting to accomplish things we've set out to do. So, I think at the end of the day, I'm really happy from the team aspect of the award."
Logue and his staff oversee a program of 135 kids, with around 60 players suiting up for varsity games. His assistants include Mike Feuerstahler, Brent Reierson, Jason Fiacco, Tom Roman, Tom Counsell, Jamie Meulemans, JJ Flor, Derek Schambow, Brandon Jenkins, Brad Radulovich, Vince Mancuso, Jim McCoy, Brady Wraalstad, Jay May, Eric Masta, Casey O'Leary, Kyle Oudenhoven and Marque Pierce. In addition to coaching, Logue is a teacher at Oconomowoc High School. Logue and his wife, Jolene, have a daughter, Ariana, and a son, Nick.
