Third-year linebacker Sam Barrington is the Packers' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
Each NFL team nominates one player for the league's highest honor recognizing community work, and the 32 nominees are eventually pared down to a handful of finalists. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was a finalist last year when the award went to Carolina LB Thomas Davis.
New this year, fans have the opportunity to help their favorite nominee secure an additional $20,000 for their cause via a social media Charity Challenge. Fans can simply use Barrington's unique hashtag (#BarringtonWPMOYChallenge) on any of their social media accounts to vote. The player whose hashtag is used the most by Dec. 31, 2015 will receive a $20,000 donation to a charity of his choice.
Earlier this year, before going on injured reserve, Barrington received the 2015 community service award at the annual Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce "Welcome Back" luncheon. Since joining the Packers as a seventh-round draft pick in 2013, Barrington has been involved in the NFL's Play 60 program as well as local Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and PALS chapters, among other causes.
