Schedule set for Packers training camp, presented by Bellin Health

The Green Bay Packers today announced the schedule for 2011 Packers Training Camp, Presented by Bellin Health, featuring 13 night practices and 21 practices overall at Ray Nitschke Field in addition to Packers Family Night at Lambeau Field.

With a theme of "Back to Football," training camp opens with a 7 p.m. practice on Saturday, July 30. That will mark the first of three straight days featuring a single night practice.

After the opening session on July 30, night practices beginning at 7 p.m. are scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17 at Nitschke Field.

All but two of the practices leading into the first two preseason games, at Cleveland (Aug. 13) and vs. Arizona (Aug. 19), are scheduled for 7 p.m. Following the contest against the Cardinals, the Packers will shift into more of a regular-season schedule with one practice each morning on Aug. 22-24 heading into the preseason contest at Indianapolis on Aug. 26.

The Packers will wrap up training camp with a morning practice each day on Aug. 28-30 in preparation for the preseason finale vs. Kansas City on Sept. 1.

Should inclement weather or any other factor force the team indoors, practices will be closed to the public due to space limitations inside the Don Hutson Center. Please also note that all practice dates, times and dress are subject to change.

The Packers have incorporated night practices into their training camp schedule since Mike McCarthy took over as head coach in 2006.

The annual Packers Family Night, Presented by Bellin Health, is scheduled for Saturday evening, Aug. 6, at Lambeau Field. The event will benefit the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program with evening activities getting underway in the stadium at 5:30 p.m., followed by full-team drills at 6:30 p.m.

The team's two home preseason games, also presented by Bellin Health, are slated for Aug. 19, vs. Arizona, and Sept. 1, vs. Kansas City. The Packers' two road preseason contests are at Cleveland, Aug. 13, and at Indianapolis, Aug. 26.

According to the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, training camp, along with Packers Family Night, Presented by Bellin Health, will attract an estimated 100,000 visitors from across the nation and as many as 20 foreign countries. With an economic impact estimated at $25 million, training camp is a financial boost to many area businesses.

This marks Green Bay's 66th training camp, a tradition that began in 1946 under Curly Lambeau. One of the most intimate preseason settings in the NFL, Packers training camp is unique in several respects. Players have been riding kids' bicycles to practice since the Vince Lombardi era, and the team has lived in the dorm rooms at nearby St. Norbert College since 1958, the league's longest training-camp relationship between a team and school.
