Scottish super-fan George McClintock will endure the ultimate road trip this weekend when he travels a round trip of almost 10,000 miles to see the Packers take on the Chiefs at Lambeau Field.
McClintock, who was named Fan of the Year by the NFL Europe League Scottish Claymores, won the prize of a trip to an NFL game of his choice for his efforts in supporting and promoting the team. George, also a transatlantic Packers fan had no hesitation selecting a game in Green Bay at famous Lambeau Field - despite a gruelling 40-hour round trip to see his Packers heroes in action.
The Claymores' No.1 booster is particularly looking forward to seeing former Claymores players Craig Nall and Marco Rivera. Packers back-up quarterback Nall was a standout for the Claymores this past NFL Europe League season - and George's Claymores fan club, the Inverclyde Mariners, helped him feel right at home by 'adopting' the passer during his stay.
Nall returned the favor leading the NFL Europe League in passing and his Scottish team to a 6-4 standing, narrowly missing out on an appearance in World Bowl XI, which was held near George's hometown in Glasgow, Scotland.
George, who is chairman of the tiny fan club based in a small town in Ayrshire, Scotland, near to the home of the famous poet Robert Burns, invested countless hours of his own time to welcome Nall and a number of other players to Scotland, promote the Claymores, the NFL and to develop grassroots gridiron in his local area.
He and his wife Kai are keen to catch up with their 'adopted son', who they 'drafted' to their fan club as part of an Adopt an NFL Player program run by the Claymores to help their NFL allocates settle in Scotland for the 12-week season. The fan club took Nall to their hearts selecting him as their No.1 pick in the pre-season fan draft.
They are also keen on seeing former Claymores offensive lineman Rivera in action again. He played for the Scots in 1997 and the McClintocks haven't forgotten his as well as Nall's contribution to the team.
"Both Craig and Marco did a tremendous job for the Claymores and it's great to see how well their careers are developing in Green Bay and how well they are contributing to the Packers.
"We're really looking forward to catching up with Craig again and soaking up the historic atmosphere of Lambeau Field and the Vince Lombardi tradition, not to mention the legendary tailgating which we've heard so much about!"
