Our "Signature Snaps" series has allowed you, the fans, to select your favorite running, passing, defensive and special teams plays from the 2012 season. Those top vote-getters are now candidates for our play of the year, and they are presented here:
Running play: DuJuan Harris, 18-yard TD at San Francisco, NFC Divisional
A sparkplug out of the backfield for the Packers late in the season, Harris got a great block from T.J. Lang on 49ers linebacker Navorro Bowman and then made the safety miss near the goal line. The TD gave the Packers a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter, the last time Green Bay would have the lead in the game that ended the season.
Passing play: Donald Driver, 26-yard TD vs. Chicago, Week 2
This was the first catch of Driver's final season, and his most significant. It came one play after a Tramon Williams interception, and when the Packers went for the quick strike, Driver was ignored in the left slot and ran free up the seam. The fourth-quarter TD sealed a significant division win and allowed the "Dancing With The Stars" champion to show off a few of his moves. It was Driver's 60th career receiving TD, making him just the third player in Packers history to reach that total.
Defensive play: Mike Daniels, 43-yard fumble return TD vs. Detroit, Week 14
Daniels was Johnny-on-the-spot when the ball slipped out of Stafford's hand and lay harmlessly on the turf in the second quarter of a prime-time contest. The rookie defensive lineman didn't just fall on it, though. He showed his athleticism by scooping it up and rumbling all the way to a Lambeau Leap, making the key play in the Packers' comeback from an early 14-0 deficit. Daniels became the first rookie Packers defensive lineman to return a fumble for a TD since 1941.
Special teams play: Tom Crabtree, 27-yard TD on fake FG vs. Chicago, Week 2
On fourth-and-26 – a down and distance that became forever a part of Packers lore in the 2003 playoffs in Philadelphia – Crabtree took a shovel pass from holder Tim Masthay, got good blocks from Evan Dietrich-Smith and Don Barclay, and had smooth sailing to the end zone with little resistance from the baffled Bears. The boom-or-bust play gave the Packers a 10-0 lead late in the second quarter to jump-start a key early-season win.
