Training Camp Report - July 28, 2002

The Green Bay Packers caught the attention of the national media Sunday, as ESPN and FOXSports.com visited Clarke Hinkle Field to document the day's activities. They picked a great day to report on the Green and Gold, as there were numerous noteworthy performances despite Sunday's sweltering heat, which prompted the removal of pads for the afternoon session.

Cornerback Antuan Edwards earned the compliments of defensive coordinator Ed Donatell when he made a fingertip catch while managing to stay inbounds. Later, Brett Favre launched a 50-yard completion to wide receiver Robert Ferguson, despite having menacing tackle Gilbert Brown in his face. Ferguson, who was selected in the second round of the 2001 draft, has been acknowledged by GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman for his exceptional hard work throughout the offseason.

The linemen were hard at it in the trenches. The O-line produced several nice holes for the running backs during the first few minutes of the nine-on-seven drill. Not to be outdone, the defensive line later claimed revenge by making two consecutive stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Wide receiver Donald Driver also had a big day for the Pack, hauling in several long passes from Favre and never dropping a ball that came his way. Receiver Karsten Bailey thrilled fans, teammates and coaches alike when he alertly caught a ball that had been tipped and deflected 15-yards wayward. Bailey followed that up with a 20-yard sideline reception from rookie quarterback Craig Nall.

Monday's practices will be from 8:45-11:45 a.m. and 2:45-4:45 p.m., and will be held at Clarke Hinkle Field, weather and field conditions permitting.
