Hired Feb. 27, 2024, Marcus Jones enters his first season as a strength and conditioning assistant for the Packers. His primary duties include developing mobility and corrective-exercise plans, assisting with the return-to-play process, inputting and maintaining data for cloud-based platforms, coordinating weight-room organization and maintenance of the training facility, and assisting with all other day-to-day responsibilities of the strength and conditioning program. He will also work primarily with the wide receivers and defensive backs.
Jones joins Green Bay after spending the last three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for North Carolina State (2021-23), where he worked with the football team. He created and maintained player-performance profiles and individualized player workout sheets, coordinated on-site massages and yoga for the team, and assisted with corrective-exercise programs and implementation.
Prior to his time with the Wolfpack, he served as the assistant director of athletic performance at Appalachian State for the football program from 2020-21. In his role with the Mountaineers, Jones assisted with the direction and development of the strength and conditioning program, developed and implemented the speed-development program and analyzed and monitored training loads using the Catapult GPS tracking system.
In 2019, he held the title of assistant director of strength and conditioning for Western Kentucky, where he designed and implemented the strength and conditioning program for the men's and women's track and field programs and assisted with the strength and conditioning for the football program. Another key element to his role with the Hilltoppers was collecting and analyzing data using the STATSports GPS tracking system.
Jones spent the 2018 season at the University of Louisville as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, helping implement the training program for football as well as working specifically with the defensive backs and wide receivers. In 2017, he was a speed and strength coach/cornerbacks coach for the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), coaching cornerbacks and working with the football team to assist athletes with successful return-to-play plans. He began his coaching career as a strength and conditioning assistant at Boise State in 2016.
Jones was a wide receiver, defensive back and kick/punt returner for the University of Minnesota, playing in 41 games across four seasons (2011-14) and ending his collegiate career ranked No. 6 in kickoff return yardage (1,311 yards) for the Gophers. He earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science in 2014 before receiving a master's of education in kinesiology and exercise science from the school in 2016.
Jones is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) and strength and conditioning coach certified (SCCC) by the CSCCa (Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association).
Jones, a native of Wake Forest, N.C., attended Wake Forest-Rolesville High School, where he was a three-year starter on both offense and defense and earned all-conference accolades as a senior after helping lead his team to the state Class 4AA title game. Jones currently resides in Howard, Wis., and has a daughter, Mya, and son, Naeem.
