GREEN BAY – The Packers took their first defensive lineman in the 2021 NFL Draft with the selection of Florida's T.J. Slaton in the fifth round on Saturday.

He's the first of Green Bay's two fifth-round picks, at No. 173 overall.

A big guy at 6-4, 330, Slaton saw the field for the Gators since his true freshman season in 2017 and became a full-time starter at defensive tackle this past year, when he recorded 37 tackles, 1½ sacks and five QB hurries.

Slaton played in 45 games in all for Florida, posting 98 tackles and 3½ career sacks. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., he was a U.S. Army All-American in high school.

He's the first interior defensive lineman the Packers have drafted in the past two drafts.
