Author and De Pere native Tony Walter will sign copies of his new book Ice Bowl: The Game That Will Never Die in the Packers Pro Shop on Saturday, July 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or while supplies last.
Walter, whose work at the game as a photographer's assistant was halted by the freezing temperatures, ended up watching the game from the sidelines and enjoyed the final series from just a few feet away.
The book features a foreword by Ice Bowl hero Chuck Mercein. It tells a variety of stories from people near and far throughout that day, including the story of one local soldier who listened to the game while guarding a bridge in Vietnam with a soldier from Dallas.
The book includes color photos -- some of them never before published.
Ice Bowl: The Game That Will Never Die is a 152-page paperback and is available at the Packers Pro Shop, both in-store and online for $18.95.
Tony Walter has been telling stories about the Green Bay Packers and their fans for more than half a century, first as a writer and editor for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and now in retirement through a series of three books, including his new release, as well as his previous titles Baptism by Football and The Packers, My Dad, and Me.
