The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame features a new exhibit highlighting the life and work of longtime Packers team photographer Vernon Biever. The Packers Hall of Famer was with the organization for more than 60 years and photographed some of the greatest moments in the club's history.
The exhibit, "The Man Behind the Camera: The Life and Work of Vernon Biever," opened to the general public on Saturday, Oct. 27, and will run through spring 2013.
Biever's photography is an integral part of the recognition of the Green Bay Packers franchise and professional football in general. His exhibition is organized into two halves: one focusing on his life and the other on his photography work. With enhanced copies of his original photos and artifacts from his personal belongings, visitors can expect to learn who Vern was and why his legacy is as important as any other in Packers history.
The photos on display in the exhibit span 30 years of Biever's work, beginning with the 1954 season and ending in 1984. Included in the 30 years of Biever's photos are several of his favorites, such as Pete Rozelle's presentation of the Super Bowl I trophy to Vince Lombardi, when Biever was the only still photographer in the locker room to capture the moment.
The exhibit also includes a replica of Biever's "darkroom," which was reconstructed with the help of his son, Jim, who carried on his legacy as the Packers team photographer.
"It's such an honor, not only for my family and my father's legacy, but for all sports photographers all across the country," said Jim Biever. "It honors all those guys who stand out in the rain and snow and come up with incredible pictures week after week."
The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Hours may vary on gamedays and holidays. Cost is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors (62 and older), military (with valid military ID), student (with college student ID) and youth (12-17); $5 for children (6-11); and children 5 and under are free.
