The Green Bay Packers have signed DL Brevin Allen, K Alex Hale and DL Zach Morton and waived/injured CB Don Callis (CAL-iss) and WR Rory Starkey. The transactions were announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Allen (6-4, 265), a first-year player out of Campbell University, was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was released after training camp. He spent his rookie season on the Chargers' practice squad and appeared in two games as a standard elevation, but did not register any stats. In college, Allen appeared in 44 career games (2018-22) and twice earned FCS All-America recognition. He set the school record with 38 career tackles for a loss and ranked No. 2 all-time in school history with 20.5 sacks. Allen was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year following the 2021 season and earned all-conference recognition each of his final four seasons. He will wear No. 43 for the Packers.
Hale (6-1, 203) is a rookie who began his career at Oklahoma State as a walk-on. The Gosford, New South Wales, Australia, native was a two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist (2020, 2023) and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2023. He finished his college career 43 of 54 on field goal attempts to give him the fifth-highest field-goal percentage (.796) in school history. Hale's 43 field goals rank No. 8 in OSU history. He made 47 consecutive PAT attempts from 2021-23 to tie for the 10th-longest streak in school history. Hale will wear No. 16 for the Packers.
Morton (6-5, 261), a first-year player out of Akron University, originally signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was released on Aug. 5, 2023. In 2024, he played for the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL. In college, Morton played in 30 games (24 starts) at Syracuse (2017-21) and Akron (2021-22), totaling 61 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. He will wear No. 60 for the Packers.
