Packers claim K James Turner off waivers from Detroit Lions

Rookie out of Michigan earned second-team All-Big Ten honors last season

The Green Bay Packers claimed K James Turner off waivers from the Detroit Lions. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction on Monday.

Turner (6-0, 190), a rookie out of the University of Michigan, was originally signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He played one season for the Wolverines (2023) after spending four years at the University of Louisville (2019-22). Overall, Turner finished with 65 of 80 (81.3 pct.) field goals made, 189 of 193 (97.9 pct.) extra points made and a total of 384 points. Last season, he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors after leading the conference in extra points made (65 of 66, 98.5 pct.) and field-goal percentage (18 of 21, 85.7 pct.). Turner will wear No. 16 for the Packers.
