The Green Bay Packers have signed LS Matt Orzech (OR-zick), claimed S Zayne Anderson off waivers from the Buffalo Bills, claimed TE Ben Sims off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings, placed T Luke Tenuta (tuh-NOOT-uh) on injured reserve and signed LB Kristian Welch to the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Thursday.
Orzech was with Green Bay this past offseason and during training camp.
Anderson (6-2, 206), a first-year player out of BYU, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021 by the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent time on the Chiefs' practice squad in 2021-22, appearing in seven games and posting a tackle on special teams during the regular season. Anderson also played in three postseason contests for Kansas City and recorded a special teams tackle. This past offseason, he signed with the Buffalo Bills back in February. Anderson will wear No. 39 for the Packers.
Sims (6-5, 250), a rookie out of Baylor, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, by the Vikings. He ended his collegiate career ranked in the top five among the school's tight ends in career touchdowns (No. 1, 12), receptions (No. 2, 78) and receiving yards (No. 4, 785). After appearing in 11 games over his first two seasons, Sims played in 26 games with 24 starts over his final two years at Baylor. He will wear No. 89 for the Packers.
Welch (6-3, 240), a fourth-year player out of the University of Iowa, was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020. In three seasons, he played in 43 regular-season games and three postseason contests for the Ravens. Welch has posted five tackles (four solo) on defense and 16 tackles on special teams during the regular season and two tackles on special teams during the postseason. In 2021, he tied for No. 2 on the team with a career-best nine special teams tackles and helped Baltimore's unit rank No. 1 in Football Outsiders' DVOA rating. Welch will wear No. 54 for the Packers.
