The Green Bay Packers promoted Bryan Engel to vice president of player health and performance and Nate Weir to director of sports medicine/head athletic trainer. The announcements were made Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Engel has worked as the director of sports medicine/head athletic trainer for the past two seasons after working as the head athletic trainer from 2015-21. He originally joined Green Bay in 1997 as a seasonal assistant and served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Packers from 1999-2014. Engel was honored with the 2013 Tim Davey NFC Assistant Athletic Trainer Award. Prior to joining Green Bay, Engel was a seasonal assistant with the New England Patriots in 1996-97 after serving as a training-camp intern for the Patriots in 1995.
Weir has been the associate athletic trainer/director of rehab & return to play since July 2022 after working as the coordinator of rehabilitation from 2017-22. For the previous 14 years, he was an assistant athletic trainer for the Packers. Weir originally joined Green Bay as a summer athletic training intern in 2004 and was a season athletic training intern for the Packers from 2005-07. Since 2020, he has been a consultant for the NFL's Musculoskeletal Committee - Foot and Ankle Task Force.
