The Green Bay Packers signed RB Mike Weber to the practice squad and placed RB Dexter Williams on injured reserve–practice squad. The transactions were announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Weber, a 5-foot-10, 211-pound first-year player out of Ohio State, was originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the first of two seventh-round picks (No. 218 overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent parts of last season on the practice squads of the Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. In college, Weber appeared in 38 games, recording 2,676 rushing yards, 24 touchdowns and a 5.9-yard average per carry. In 2016, he was named a freshman All-American and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after rushing for 1,096 yards, becoming just the third freshman in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in his first season (Robert Smith, 1,126 yards in 1990; Maurice Clarett, 1,237 yards in 2002). Weber will wear No. 38 for the Packers.
