The Green Bay Packers signed S Jonathan Owens. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Friday.
Owens (5-11, 210) is a fifth-year player that was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Missouri Western by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, he was released by the Cardinals following the 2019 training camp. Owens signed with the Houston Texans' practice squad on Sept. 30, 2019, and over the next four seasons (2019-22) he played in 31 games with 19 starts, recording 141 tackles (92 solo), an interception, five passes defensed, a sack, a QB hit, a fumble recovery and two tackles on special teams. Last season, he set career marks across the board with 17 games started, 125 tackles (No. 2 on the team), 84 solo tackles (No. 2 on the team), a sack, a QB hit and four passes defensed. Owens will wear No. 34 for the Packers.
S James Wiggins will now wear No. 31 for Green Bay.
