The Green Bay Packers have signed T Jared Veldheer (vel-DEER) off of the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad and placed G Simon Stepaniak (step-uh-nack) on injured reserve. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Tuesday.
Veldheer (vel-DEER), a 6-foot-8, 312-pound 10th-year player out of Hillsdale College, joins the Packers for the second time after playing in two regular-season contests and two postseason games last season with a start at right tackle in the 2019 NFC Divisional Playoff win over Seattle. He was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round (No. 69 overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. Veldheer has played in 121 regular-season games with 114 starts for the Raiders (2010-13), Arizona Cardinals (2014-17), Denver Broncos (2018), Packers (2019) and Indianapolis Colts (2020). He also played in six postseason contests with five starts, including starting last week at left tackle for the Colts in the Wild Card Playoff at Buffalo. During the regular season, Veldheer has started 92 games at left tackle, 21 games at right tackle and a game at center. He will wear No. 70 for the Packers.
