Packers sign TE Johnny Lumpkin and WR TJ Luther to practice squad

Green Bay releases two players from practice squad

The Green Bay Packers signed TE Johnny Lumpkin and WR TJ Luther to the practice squad and released RB La'Mical Perine (la-MICHAEL PEE-rhyne) and WR Jalen Wayne from the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions on Tuesday.

Lumpkin (6-5, 264), a first-year player out of the University of Louisiana, was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. He was released after training camp and spent parts of the rookie season on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. Lumpkin played in 35 games during his college career, recording 36 receptions for 408 yards (11.3 avg.) and six touchdowns. He will wear No. 86 for the Packers.

Luther (5-11, 189), a first-year player out of Gardner-Webb, was originally signed by the N.Y. Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. He was released after training camp and spent part of his rookie season on the Patriots' practice squad. After being released by New England during the offseason, Luther spent part of training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent three years at Wofford, where he appeared in 27 games prior to transferring to Gardner-Webb for the last two seasons, where he played in 20 games. In 2022, Luther posted 63 catches for 1,166 yards (18.5 avg.) and eight TDs. He will wear No. 82 for the Packers.
