GREEN BAY – Since the Packers' game-winning drive in overtime Sunday to beat the Patriots was already described in great detail via this story, the Chevy Drive of the Week will go in a different direction.
Green Bay's opening scoring drive of the 27-24 victory was unique and important in its own right, as all 50 yards came on the ground, rookie receiver Christian Watson scored his first NFL touchdown, and it provided the Packers' only points in an otherwise abysmal first half on offense.
It's the rarest of rarities for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to not throw a single pass on a Packers scoring drive. But he never dropped back on the six-play, 50-yard march that gave Green Bay a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Aaron Jones carried twice – once to the right, then to the left – for 15 yards on the final two snaps on the first period. Then AJ Dillon began the second with a 3-yard run before Jones went right-left again for gains of 7 and 10 yards to make it first down on the New England 15-yard line.
Watson finished it off from there, running a jet sweep and taking the handoff in a full sprint while going in motion. Fellow receiver Romeo Doubs delivered a key block on the outside, and Watson waltzed into the end zone untouched.
The 50 yards rushing set the tone for what became a 199-yard day on the ground for the offense, with Jones (110) and Dillon (73) accounting for the bulk of the production.
