Packers.com has consulted more than two dozen mock drafts from reputable national outlets and compiled a list of players most frequently mocked as draft selections in the latter portion of the first round (picks 20-32) who could be available when the Packers are on the clock at No. 25 overall.
Between now and draft day, those players will be profiled with thumbnail sketches and videos known as "Prospect Primers."
Today's player is …
Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
Height/Weight: 5-11 1/2, 199
Key stats: Two-year starter who had his best season statistically in 2022, breaking up 16 passes, with one interception, and returning 21 punts for 322 yards (15.8 avg.).
College honors: Named first-team All-America in 2023 by several outlets and first-team All-Southeastern Conference in both '22 and '23 by the league's coaches and media. Also named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award (nation's top defensive player) in '22 and a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award (nation's top DB) in '23.
Background/other info: Alabama native stayed in his home state, where he was Mr. Football as a prep star in the Birmingham area, and needed just one season to crack the starting lineup in Nick Saban's defense. Intercepted only two passes in his college career but broke up 23 passes over the past two seasons. Also returned punts both years. Saw his statistics decline slightly in '23, in part due to the emergence of teammate and fellow corner Terrion Arnold, also touted as a first-round prospect who could be chosen before McKinstry in the draft. Tabbed as a high IQ player who knows the game and understands routes and leverages. Did not work out at the combine due to a foot injury that is not expected to impact his availability for training camp. Given name is Ga'Quincy, the nickname "Kool-Aid" was given to him by his grandmother.
